Let’s Choose Good Broccoli Together

1. Check for Freshness

  • Color: Fresh broccoli should have a deep green color, and the florets must be tight and firm.
  • Stems: The stem should be firm and have a fresh green color. If the stem feels soft or appears limp, it might not be fresh.
  • Leaves: If the broccoli comes with leaves, choose ones with vibrant green leaves. Avoid those with yellowed or wilted leaves.

2. Check the Weight

  • Broccoli that feels heavy when picked up is desirable. A heavy feel indicates that it is well-hydrated, which generally means the broccoli is fresh.

How Should You Wash Broccoli?

Broccoli must be thoroughly washed before consumption. First, rinse under cold running water with the florets facing down, gently shaking them. Soaking in vinegar or saltwater for 5-10 minutes followed by rinsing with clean water is also a good method. This effectively removes residual pesticides or dust.

Delicious Broccoli Recipes

  • Blanching broccoli in boiling water for 1 minute or steaming for no more than 3 minutes is recommended. This method preserves the key nutrients of broccoli while aiding digestion.

3. Sautéed
